Beverly Huse Ryburn

Beverly Huse Ryburn, of Dover, Massachusetts, March 27, 2017. Born in 1920 in Berkeley , CA, she travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe as the only child of Captain John Oldham Huse, USN and his wife Marie Bristor Huse. After WWII, she attended The Bishop’s School in California and subsequently graduated from The Holton Arms School in Washington, DC. She went on to attend Smith College, graduating in the class of 1943. Following her graduation she was married to her husband of over 60 years, Samuel McChesney Ryburn. Beverly was an avid gardener, serving as President of the New England Wildflower Society from 1977-1980, and remained on their Board of Directors for over 40 years. She was the recipient of many horticultural awards, including the prestigious Medal of Merit from The Garden Clubs of America. Her passion for gardening was best exemplified in the wildflower and rock gardens she designed and built with her husband at their Dover home. Their gardens were featured in the New York Times and many other print and media outlets. A devoted conservationist and member of the Charles River Valley Garden Club, the Noanett Federated Garden Club, the Dover Historical Society, and countless other charitable organizations, she made significant contributions to the community. She enjoyed a full social schedule as a member of The Chilton Club of Boston, The Sulgrave Club of Washington, DC., and The Dedham Polo and Country Club. For 60 years she summered at her family home on Lake Huron, where generations of friends and family at the Harbor Beach Resort Association enjoyed spending time with her. She is survived by her son, John Huse Ryburn and daughter, Marie Ryburn Foster. She is the beloved grandmother of six adoring grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, Grace Ryburn. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at The Church of the Most Precious Blood, 30 Centre Street, Dover, MA 20230.
