Dorothy “Dottie” Helen Holahan, 88, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away peacefully following a period of decline. Fiercely independent, quick-witted, and sharp-tongued, Dottie will be remembered for her dry humor, loyalty, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
Born on September 21, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, to Helen (Kujansu) and Theodore Johnson, Dottie grew up in Bay Ridge and graduated from Fort Hamilton High School. Driven by a lifelong desire to help others, she attended Long Island College School of Nursing and went on to dedicate many years of service as a nurse at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn. In 1963, she married Robert Charles Ulrich, and the following year they welcomed their beloved daughter, Laurette Irene. The family spent countless summers together at Breezy Point, a place that always held a special place in Dottie’s heart.
After moving to Palm Beach Gardens, Dottie married Joseph V. Holahan in 1997, with whom she shared a love of travel, often embarking on cruises throughout Europe and the Caribbean. After moving to Florida, Dottie specialized as a wound care nurse at Columbia Hospital in West Palm Beach, and after retirement, she continued her passion for helping others by volunteering for many years at Jupiter Medical Center.
Dottie loved reading, Scrabble, and crossword puzzles. She treasured her travels, especially the annual Caribbean Christmas cruises she shared with her daughter, Laurette, and Laurette’s partner, Tom.
Dottie is survived by her loving and patient daughter, Laurette Ulrich, her partner, Thomas Fiore of Natick, MA, and her step-daughter, Maureen Kaufman, of Lighthouse Point, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind or to the Peggy Adams Rescue League in West Palm Beach.
