On December 21st, 2025, at the age of 84, Karin Neumann passed from this life peacefully in her home in Wayland, Massachusetts, USA.
Karin is survived by Gerwin Neumann, her husband of 60 years, her four daughters, Antje, Tamara, Renate and Birgit, their spouses and three grandchildren. Born and raised in Chile, she met her beloved husband in medical school, and with her adventurous spirit, moved with him to the United States. Throughout their time together, Karin and Gerwin continued to enjoy traveling and exploring the United States and the world.
With an insatiable thirst for knowledge and linguistics, and at home with her young children, she amassed and read books in multiple languages on various topics including world history, fiber arts, architecture, gardening design. As her kids grew older, she dabbled in woodworking, memorized all of the botanical names for plants she brought home, created furnishings, clothing and textiles, and painted her hand-carved birds while listening to classical music. She enjoyed visiting museums, the symphony and accompanying her husband to the opera as well as being active in her community garden clubs.
Karin met everyone with a smile and as an equal. She was always curious as to their origin story and inquired as to their interests and passions. Curiosity always created interesting conversations sprinkled with laughter that would linger far past tea time, into an impromptu dinner or an extended stay within a shop or at a farmer’s market long after closing.
Karin will be remembered for her devotion to Gerwin for seventy years and her love for her family and friends both in the United States and in Chile. Her family expresses deep gratitude to all who assisted in her gentle and loving care during the last few years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karin’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Arrangements are in the care of Duckett - J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, SUDBURY.
