

peacefully on January 21, 2022, following declining health.
Russ is survived by his wife, Susan, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lindsay, of Needham,
MA; son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Johanne, of Sudbury, MA; grandchildren Jackson
and Leila of Needham, MA; grandchildren Alex, Emma and Will of Sudbury, MA; brother and
sister-in-law Richard and Susan of Wethersfield, CT.
Russ was born in Hartford, CT to Maynard and Elizabeth Agne. He was educated - and then
taught - in the Wethersfield, CT school system. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Central
Connecticut State University, his Master's Degree from Syracuse University, and his PhD from
the University of Connecticut. He moved to Vermont to take a position at The University of
Vermont, where he worked for 40 years as a Professor in the College of Education and Social
Services.
He valued his time with fellow educators, was an expert geologist, an avid runner, and enjoyed
visits with extended family in upstate New York. Through the years in Vermont, he enjoyed
many things, including time with family and friends, sailing on Lake Champlain, exploring Stowe,
and working as a Guide at the Shelburne Museum. He and Susan are members of the '251
Club', having visited all 251 towns in Vermont.
Services will be held privately for immediate family members only.
