Shirley Jean Koulopoulos (Erickson) of Marlborough, MA, passed away on April 6, 2026 at the age of 95. Born in Waltham, MA on August 23, 1930, she was the daughter of E. Herbert Erickson and Margaret Erickson (MacCuish).
Shirley grew-up in Waltham and moved to Framingham with her husband Charles and their growing family where she lived for over 50 years. After downsizing in retirement, Shirley and Charles moved to Marlborough. She lived a life rooted in compassion, joy & community. She was an active and dedicated member of the Lutheran Church of Framingham, always arriving with a warm smile and a dish to share. Upon its closure, she became a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wayland.
Shirley had a deep love of travel and a true sense of adventure. Her European journeys with her husband Charles would begin with nothing more than an arrival and return flight. With guidebooks in hand, they would chart their path day by day, discovering new places with curiosity. In later years, they would fall in love with the American Southwest, making several repeat trips to New Mexico & Arizona. Memories of their travels were displayed by their art collection on the walls of their home.
Some of Shirley’s fondest memories were from time spent quilting with friends in the church basement. These gatherings were filled with laughter, friendship & stories shared. Together, they created quilts that were lovingly donated to those in need. Her garden at her Framingham home was exquisite, and Shirley spent many weekends tending lovingly to her flower beds.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Koulopoulos; her son, Glenn Koulopoulos; her grandson, Shawn Koulopoulos; and her son-in-law, William Conroy. She is survived by her cherished children, Wayne Koulopoulos (Karen) of Worcester; Lynne Conroy of Marlborough; Leif Koulopoulos (Jennifer) of Pepperell and daughter-in-law Catherine Koulopoulos of Bellingham and her grandchildren: Erin, Matthew (Jennifer), Paul (Alyssa), Sharyn, Craig (Jennifer), Nathan, Kristin (David), Elizabeth (Eric), Anastasia (John), Nicholas (Alexandra), Katherine, and Christine. She is also lovingly remembered as Super Nannie by many great grandchildren.
Family & friends are welcome to gather for a visitation on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 3-7pm at Duckett Funeral Home, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury MA 01776. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 10am at Peace Lutheran Church, 107 Concord Rd, Wayland MA 01778. Interment will occur at Mt. Feake Cemetery in Waltham, followed by a celebration of life luncheon at the Wayside Inn in Sudbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s memory at Calumet Lutheran Ministries, a treasured religious camp that held special meaning for her & was lovingly attended by her children & grandchildren. PO Box 236, West Ossipee, NH 03890 (https://www.calumet.org/).
