

Stewart graduated from Wellesley Senior High School in June 1972, and Tufts University, Medford Massachusetts in June 1976 with a BA in Mathematics. His career in the Boston area included IT Manager at Design Lights and 19 years as a Business Application Manager at Cognex. He retired in 2021 he enjoyed spending time with family and traveling.
His friends and family knew him as a friendly, selfless, and genuinely caring person with a great sense of humor. Stewart was a skilled and passionate outdoorsman, who relished wilderness backpacking trips in Idaho, Montana, northern New England, and California’s Sierra Nevada. He always enjoyed life to the fullest, whether taking local trips or traveling abroad.
He especially enjoyed getting together with friends and family, including his children as well as extended family. He was looking forward to his son (Jesse) and Barbara’s wedding and the birth of first biological grandchild by his daughter (Jenny).
Stewart was an early recipient of a kidney transplant, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, at a time when kidney transplantation was a risky, unusual procedure, and he ultimately made medical history by becoming one of the world’s longest-surviving kidney transplant patients at 45 years.
Stewart is survived by his beloved wife, Helene Madison; his adored children, Jesse Stewart French, Jesse’s fiancée Barbara Arsenault; Jenny French Pineda, Jenny’s husband John Pineda; ex-wife Ann French; sister Margaret French Bartow and her husband Dennis; and sister Elizabeth French Fribush, her husband Howard and their son Justin David Fribush.
A Visitation for Stewart will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Duckett Funeral Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury. Funeral Service will be held the same day from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the Funeral Home.
