Charlie was born in Suffern, NY to the late Clifford and Cora Ward. He graduated from Suffern High School and worked construction with Ward Pavement and eventually went on to receive college degrees from both Alfred Ag Tech and the University of Georgia.
He also served his country with honor in the Korean War with the U.S. Army in the 35th Infantry Regiment.
On June 13, 1959 in Spring Valley, NY he married Marguerite Greene, a blessed union of over 46 years before her passing in 2005. The couple moved to Lockport, NY in 1967 with their two children where he was an Agricultural Salesman for FMC and ConAgra in Western NY until he retired. He enjoyed being in the fields with the farmers, the outdoors, and all the fresh harvests used especially to make fresh fruit pies.
A man of few words, he had a good sense of humor and good heart. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 40 for many years and was their Treasurer for several of them. He was a promoter of conservation and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and animal watching. One of his favorite times was fall in Colorado listening to and watching the Elk rut.
In his free time his passion was woodworking and he was an expert craftsman. He made lots of the family furniture that will be treasured for generations to come. He especially liked making clocks, lots of clocks that chimed and filled the house with sound every 15 minutes. He also made crafty projects such as whirligigs, rocking horses, trains and wooden toys for his grandchildren and also helped neighbors with their projects too.
He is survived by his 2 children, Charles Ward and his wife Laura of Dayton, Ohio and Kathy Jenkins and her husband Don of Mead, Colorado. He also leaves his grandchildren, Julie, Katie, Gregory, Thomas, step-grandson Chris Jenkins and his wife Daleen and his brother Eugene Ward and wife Grace of Manlius, NY. Charlie is predeceased by his parents and stepbrother Harold Ward and stepsister Edith Short.
Visitation and a short service will be held on Tuesday June 23rd at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern. Anyone wishing to remember Charlie can make Memorial contributions to any Parkinson’s Association or Wildlife Conservation group of the donor’s choice.
