Gerald was born on January 5, 1946, in New York City, NY to the late Felix and Ellen (O’Malley) Rourke.
He graduated from Baruch College in 1971 and practiced as a Certified Public Account in New York City, becoming a partner at Amper, Politziner, & Mattia PC. Gerald was a devout Catholic; he attended mass daily, participated as Eucharistic minister and volunteered his accounting skills to the parish. He had a deep love for New York sports teams and a passion for good food and drink, which he shared with family and friends. He institutionalized these interests by co-founding the “Lush Corporation '' with friends and founded a decades-old Fantasy Football league with his family. Gerald continued these traditions even after his retirement when he and his late wife, Evelyn, moved to Florida, where he enjoyed daily golf games and visits from their grandchildren. In 2015, they moved back to New York to spend more time with their children, grandchildren and, soon after, great-grandchildren.
Gerald is survived by his beloved children, James Rourke and his wife Virginia, Kevin Rourke and his wife Lori, Timothy Rourke and his wife Danielle, and Ellen Rourke and her partner Joe, devoted sister Eileen Cavalcante and her husband Tony, and caring son-in-law Scott Ausbury. He is also survived by 17 cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle, Maggie, Jenna, Ashely, Caitlyn, Melanie, Timmy, Brenden, Rebecca, Meghan, Melissa, Emily, Tara, Jaime, Evie, and Sara and 2 great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Poppy. Gerald was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn in 2019 and his beloved daughter Felicia Ann Ausbury in 2014.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm at the WANAMAKER & CARLOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 177 Route 59 Suffern, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 7 at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern, NY. Private Cremation Services will follow.
