

Joseph Charles Dure passed away on June 19, 2025, at the age of 108. Born on December 4, 1916, in La Vallee de Jacmel, Haiti, Joseph was a beloved and faithful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a resident of Spring Valley, New York, and his life was a testament to love, dedication, and family.
Joseph was married to the absolute love of his life, Marie (Yaya) Dure, in September 1944. Their marriage was a remarkable union that lasted until her passing in 2019, spanning an incredible 75 years. Joseph is survived by his children: Emmanuel J. Dure and his wife Marie Y. Dure, Joseph G. Dure and his wife Marie E. Dure, Marie Edouard and her husband Martin Edouard, Jean G. Dure and his wife Marie J. Jean Marie, Elisabeth Boursiquot and her husband Rene Boursiquot, and Monique Dure. He was predeceased by his children Yves Dure, Guy Dure, and Jean C. Dure. Joseph leaves behind a legacy of 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In April 1982, Joseph moved to the United States, where he continued to cultivate his passion for gardening and soccer. He also enjoyed cockfighting during his time in Haiti, often bringing candy to his children with his winnings. Joseph was known for his great love of family, and even in his final days, he would call out to his beloved wife, Yaya.
A visitation will be held at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, located at 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at The Church of St. Joseph, 245 N Main St, Spring Valley, NY 10977, on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY 10954.
Joseph Charles Dure's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
