Karen “Caddy” Jones, 60, passed away peacefully in Newark, New Jersey on March 8, 2026. To the world, and in particular her Rockland County community, she leaves a profound legacy of love, kindness, and service.
Caddy was born on July 18, 1965 in Spring Valley, New York, the fourth child of Alice Marie Jones and Willie Lee Jones. She was very active in her youth. In addition to being a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Spring Valley, Caddy loved fashion and modeling. She ran track and was a cheerleader at Ramapo High School, where she graduated in 1983. Afterward, she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology before discontinuing her studies to give birth to her only child, future Congressman Mondaire Jones, with George Biggs.
Caddy was passionate about helping children. For many years, she was a child care worker for foster kids at St. Dominic’s Family Services in Blauvelt, New York and St. Agatha Home for Children in Nanuet, New York. She loved the work and excelled at it. She was invested in the success of the children, and treated them as she would her own.
Caddy was the best mother for whom anyone could ever ask. She worked multiple jobs to provide for her son, and put him in activities at a very young age, including enrolling him in an acting course, karate class, and multiple youth basketball leagues. She took Mondaire to the movies when she got paid every two weeks, which became one of their favorite pastimes. She also took him to feed the ducks in Rockland, and to Six Flags in New Jersey. At all times, she considered Mondaire to be the most important part of her life, and she constantly told him how special he is. Later in life, she would still call to ask him if he had eaten dinner.
Caddy was also deeply religious and read the Bible often. She drew comfort from its teachings, especially during hard times, and was proud of her relationship with God.
Caddy is survived by her son Mondaire, of White Plains, New York; her mother Alice, of Newark, Delaware; her sisters Pamela Wood, of Newark, Delaware, and Angela Miller, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; her brothers Freddy Jones, of Delaware, and Vincent Jones, of Mahwah, New Jersey; her aunts Mozelle Brathwaite, of Westin, Florida, and Odell Haymes, of South Boston, Virginia; her uncles Charles Jones, of Skipwith, Virginia, Jorge Brathwaite, of Westin, Florida, and Lloyd Jones, of Mechanicsville, Virginia; her nieces Keisha Jones, of Orange, Connecticut, Akira Miller, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Nia Jones, of Hackensack, New Jersey, and Akilah Jones, of Hackensack, New Jersey; her nephew Arles Wood, of Charlotte, North Carolina; her grand-nieces Amirah Falletta, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gabriella Meghie, of Orange, Connecticut, Ivy Wood, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Olive Wood, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and her grand-nephew Saleem Wilson, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
