Marian Rose, a resident of Suffern, NY, passed away on April 7, 2024. She was 88 years old. Marian was born on March 5, 1936 in the Bronx, NY to the late Irving Geher and Ethel Klavan. Before her retirement, she worked in sales in the advertising industry.
Marian was born and raised in the Bronx. She graduated from Christopher Columbus High School at 16. She met her future husband, Ron Rose, when she was 10 years old. They married when she was 18 and he was 21, and moved to Long Island to raise their family: Lance, Randy and Alison. Once the children were a bit older, Marian decided to work outside of the home, an unusual choice for women of her generation. She spent many years at Reuben Donnelly/NYNEX Yellow Pages as one of their top advertising sales people. Later, she and Ronnie moved to the Upper West Side of Manhattan to enjoy the city life. She then joined the financial advisory firm that Ronnie had started, and they successfully ran it as partners for several years.
Marian’s life changed when she lost Ronnie in 1989 after 35 years of marriage. Never one to complain or feel sorry for herself, she moved to a new apartment and continued to work until she reached the age of 70.
By then, several grandchildren had arrived. She enjoyed the role of “Grammy” and was there for anyone who needed her.
After the untimely loss of her son, Lance, and daughter-in-law, Janet, many years ago, she dedicated many years of her life to help raise her grandchildren.
When Marian was not spending time with family, she could be found working on the NY Times crossword puzzle, playing Scrabble, reading books, or watching Jeopardy. People who spent time with her enjoyed her intelligence and sharp sense of humor.
Marian was thoughtful, loving, funny, and deeply devoted to her family and friends. She will be sorely missed by anyone whose life she touched.
Marian is survived by her daughters, Randy Rose (Rob Weinberg), Alison Rose-Gonzalez (Edwin Gonzalez), grandchildren Julie, Rory, Sophie, Emily, and Nico, and great grandchildren Charlotte, Darcy and Avery.
She was predeceased by husband, Ronald Rose, son Lance Rose, and sister Ruth Pesner.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 10th at 10:30am at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901. Interment is Private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to Planned Parenthood or another charity that supports the political rights of women and female empowerment.
