Raymond J Mazzei of Suffern, New York, pillar of the community and beloved owner and operator of Sutter's Mill passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at age 57. Raymond was born September 25, 1964 in Bronx, New York.
In losing Ray, our community has lost a shining example of what it means to be a good man. Ray lived his life in service to others without ever surrendering the strength and passion that made him a solid foundation to lean on. He was a fierce advocate for the people and causes he cared about, always making sure Sutter's was open in a snow storm or a hurricane to be there for any hungry members of law enforcement or EMS who happened to be out working, and turning Sutter's into the true heart of sports for Rockland County, never missing a chance to go out to a game or host the local team, win or loss. In losing Ray, we have undoubtedly lost a huge piece of what brings our community together, but his memory will serve as a reminder to all of us to live proudly and generously. Ray is pre-deceased by his Mother and Father, Rose and Paul Mazzei, and survived by his loving wife Holly, children Dakota, Heather, Paul and Robert & grandchildren Leo and Luna, sisters Dena, Denise, and Patricia, and to over a dozen nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind 2 dogs who will miss him dearly, and a host of family, friends, coworkers, and customers who are all better for having known him.
