

Richard Humphreys, 86, of Suffern died at the VA Hospital in Montrose, NY. “Dickie” as he was affectionately known was born on July 28, 1925 in Astoria, Queens. He grew up in Rocky Point and Bellerose. He served in WWII with the First Aviation Engineering Battalion of the 1st Marine Division and fought in the Pacific Theater at the battles of Tinian and Okinawa. During the years following WWII he worked for California Texas Oil, Shell Oil, Western Union Realty Company and Cross and Brown Corp. At the age of 73 Dickie combined his lifelong love of golf with a desire to continue his work ethic and took a position on the Groundskeeping Crew and later the Ranger Staff at Spook Rock Golf Course. He has always said it was the greatest job he ever had. Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ellen Shaddock, a daughter Kathleen Adam of Clifton Park, NY, a daughter Nancy (husband Daniel) Zelem of Suffern and a son Brian of Albany. He is predeceased by his son Ronald who passed away in 1998. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Visitation Sunday 3-8pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral home 177 Route 59 in Suffern. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 11am at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern followed by an Interment at F.W. Loescher Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY. Donations in Richards Memory can be made to the V.A. Hospital in Montrose (Hospice Unit Building 6) or United Hospice of Rockland.
