Robert (Bobby) was born in Suffern, NY to Robert E. Havercamp and Minnie Bambino. In his youth he lived in Stony Point, loved riding horses and driving his white convertible Pontiac Bonneville he nicknamed “George”.
Bobby served his country honorably in the US Army’s Aviation Brigade during the Vietnam War. He received both the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. Most notably, he also received the Army Commendation Medal for Valor for distinguished heroism displayed while volunteering to dismantle live landmine explosives ahead of his battalion during active combat.
Bobby married the love of his life Claire Weihe on September 6, 1969. Bobby and Claire had three children together: Thomas Havercamp (Dianna), Danielle Alexander (Kevin), and Paul Havercamp (Antoinette). He actively shared with them a love of sports, nature, family and Faith. Bobby was blessed with seven grandchildren whom he adored: Jacqueline, Julia, Justin, Jenna, Allison, Ryan and Gabrielle.
During his life, Bobby was an accomplished musician playing the steel guitar in various country bands. After retiring from the United Parcel Service in 2004, he enjoyed his home in the Poconos, golfing, rooting for the Mets, having coffee with friends and spending time with his family. He was a kind and humble man, full of humor and will be greatly missed by all those that knew him.
There will be a private military service for immediate family members before Bobby is laid to rest in celebration of his reunion with God, Claire and his Doberman, Shannon. May he rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
