Alberto, or Bert to his friends and colleagues, is the eldest of six brothers – Benjamin (Ben), Romeo (Omy), Arturo (Art), Joseph (Joey) and Jaime (Jimmy) Patenia. He attended the University of the Philippines where he graduated with a Civil Engineering degree, and also met there the love of his life Mila Montoya.
Bert began a lifelong career as a Civil Engineer and emigrated to the US in 1968. He kept in touch with Mila through letters and they were married in Manila on January 4, 1970 and began their life together in Houston, Texas. Bert’s career eventually brought him and his family overseas to Saudi Arabia where he worked as an engineer for Saudi Aramco for many years. He retired from Aramco at the age of 60 and spent his remaining years with family and close friends in Houston.
Bert enjoyed music, golf, travel, good food and connecting with friends. He was a loving Lolo to his four grandchildren and a dedicated husband, father, father-in-law, brother and friend to many. He was an active member of the Filipino community and Holy Family Catholic Church. Bert will be dearly missed by those who knew him, but will live on in our hearts forever.
