Anne Marie Hanley was born on September 30, 1956, in Yonkers, New York, to Anastasia and James T. Behan. She was the middle child among five siblings, with an older brother Jimmy, older sister, Claire, and younger sisters, Ginny and Grace.
Anne met the love of her life, Joseph Hanley Jr., on August 23, 1980, a day she would later proclaim changed her life forever. She is survived by her son Eric, his significant other Liz, son Kevin, his wife Stephanie, and her cherished grandchildren: Ben, James, Teddy, and Kensington. Anne has been reunited in the afterlife with her beloved husband and daughter.
A dedicated wife, mother, and nurse, Anne took immense pride in her work and her ability to positively impact the lives of those around her in both New York and Houston. She found her calling at Houston Methodist West in the Patient Access Team, where she devoted herself to helping others.
Anne's life can be seen in two significant parts: her years in New York, where she worked tirelessly and raised her family, and her time in Houston, where, following the tragic loss of her daughter, she focused on outreach and support for those in need. She found community and encouragement with the Blue Star Moms, assisting troops, especially her son, whom she cherished as her favorite soldier. Additionally, she became a member of the Axe Sisters from Sacred Heart Church, actively spreading the word of God and caring for those in distress.
Despite the profound pain of losing her daughter, it was watching her husband Joe's decline that affected her the most. A proud and steadfast woman, Anne never wavered in her commitment to her vows, holding true to her promise of love through thick and thin, in sickness and in health. Together with her son Eric, she tirelessly cared for Joe, making sure he was supported as his health declined until he ultimately needed more specialized care, easing the difficult decision for Anne. She visited often, holding Joe’s hand and ensuring he received his kiss goodbye.
With Joe's passing, Anne felt lost, navigating life as a widow without clear direction. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all whose lives she touched throughout the years as she walks through the pearly gates, side by side with her husband and daughter.
