

Bonnie J. Achord, born June 14, 1932, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 92. He lived a life full of purpose, dedication, and love for his family, friends, and community.
Bonnie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from LSU. He played an active role in ROTC and was also a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Bonnie met the love of his life, Karen at LSU where their love blossomed and grew through their years of marriage.
One special memory of Bonnie’s 8-year service in the Army, was in 1959. Bonnie was assigned to an Army Headquarters Ready Reserve unit as 1st Lieutenant where he was over an EOD unit. This unit was assigned to Ft Sill in Oklahoma where they were tasked to detonate unexploded ordinances piled as large as a ranch house. He received $50/month with the promise of additional pay for hazardous duty.
Bonnie enjoyed a distinguished 38-year career at Halliburton Energy Services. His vision and creativity contributed to improvements in both operations and safety that are still being practiced today. His visionary solutions placed Bonnie in an elite group identified as “Halliburton Legends”.
He was a devoted member of Grace Presbyterian Church as well as a proud member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).. His life was also enriched by his involvement with Sweetwater Country Club enjoying golf with his wife and golfing buddies and his continued alliance with the LSU Alumni Association, where he proudly supported his beloved LSU Tigers.
A passionate outdoorsman, Bonnie loved golfing, hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with his family. He was known for his exceptional storytelling, his ever-positive attitude, and his genuine love for people. Above all, he was deeply devoted to his family and his faith in God, always finding joy in the simple blessings of life.
Bonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie J. Achord Sr. and Maud Nurdin Partrich, as well as his stepmother, Mildred Templet Achord. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Karen Reythe Smith Achord; his sons, Lewis W. Achord (Lynnette) and Lynn M. Achord (Judi), his daughter, Laura A. Achord; his brother, Robert Joseph Achord (Janice); his grandchildren, Ryan Achord (Kristin), Nichole Bial (Jordon), Tyler Achord (GraceAnn), Alexandra Achord, and Mitchell Achord; as well as his cherished great-grandchildren, Charles William, Brooke Wiley, Samantha Marie, Chelsea Adalynn, Aubrey Grace Achord, and Brody Michael Bial.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Concierge, Dr. Lawrence Baum, and Dr. Clyde Donald Ford for their care and support during his final years.
A memorial service to celebrate Bonnie's life will be held on February 1, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Settegast-Kopf Co at Sugar Creek.
Bonnie's life was a reflection of kindness, generosity, and faith, and he will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
