Dolores Larue Fehnel was born in Bethlehem, PA, on March 29, 1931, to Larue V. and Earl W. Ecker and departed into the hands of the Lord on June 29, 2019. She graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem and received a degree from Centenary Jr. College for Women in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Dolores was a life-long Lutheran and was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Bethlehem. She was married to the love of her life, Robert Fehnel, for 48 years until his death.
During her career, Dolores worked in the Pathology Lab at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA, was a principal in Fehnel & Associates Construction Co. in Bellevue, WA, and was a property manager for the Benaroya Company in Seattle, WA. She was also a consummate volunteer - doing work with the Jr League, PTA President at her children’s school, and for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Dolores was the first female President of the King County Boys and Girls Clubs and also served on the national board. In their spare time, Dolores and her husband, Bob, were avid Seahawks fans, holding season tickets for many years. They loved boating among the San Juan Islands in their boat, the Ferdinand. They traveled extensively, including an around the world cruise. They retired to Sun Lakes, AZ, where they enjoyed life and made many life-long friends.
Dolores spent the last 10 years living in Houston, TX, near one of her daughters and grandchildren. She lived at the Forum at Memorial Woods where she was very active on the Tenants Board (President for several years) and active in the Bridge Club, Book Club, and Bible study.
Dolores is survived by her two daughters: Christine Gould (Pepper) and Anne Brendt (widowed); Grandchildren: Heather Gustafson (PJ), Win Gould, Rick Schneider, and Peter Schneider; Great-granddaughters: Hannah and Audrey Gustafson.
The family is very grateful to her primary caregiver for the last three years, Gloria Esprit, and to the many others who helped care for her at the end of her life.
Her life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service on Saturday, July 6, at 11 am at Fishers of Men Lutheran Church, 2011 Austin Parkway, Sugar Land, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Houston or to Fishers of Men Lutheran Church.
