Dwight Holifield, 81, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, in Sugar Land, Texas. Born on November 12, 1943, in Ellisville, Mississippi, Dwight lived a full life marked by dedication to his family, a strong work ethic, and an infectious sense of humor.
As a young father seeking stability and opportunity, Dwight was faced with three career paths: liquor salesman, stock car racer, or policeman. He chose the first—and never looked back. Over the next 47 years, Dwight built a successful career in the liquor industry. He held various roles including salesman, sales manager, and branch manager at respected companies such as Lone Star, Quality, Tarrant, Republic, and Glazers. His time at United Auto Parts and traveling in SW Louisiana remained a fond memory from his early working years.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dwight was known for his unwavering integrity. A man of his word, if Dwight said he would do something—it got done. Each day began with his infamous yellow pad and a meticulously crafted list; any unfinished task simply moved to the top of the next day’s agenda.
Dwight enjoyed the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were activities that brought him joy and countless stories, many of which centered around adventures on the Jackson Ranch in Anahuac or tall tales of fish caught on Lake Texoma. One of his most cherished memories was catching a blue marlin in Cabo San Lucas—a moment immortalized in a prized photograph.
Cars were another great love of Dwight’s life. From street racing in South Houston as a teenager to competing at Meyer Speedway, he had gasoline in his veins. Though he appreciated modern muscle like his Pontiac G8 and Chevy SS, it was his old Ford pickup that truly held his heart.
In recent years, Dwight found camaraderie in biweekly pool games with close friends, the Old Farts' Club. His friendships stood the test of time and were so important to him. Laughter followed him wherever he went; he had a quick wit and loved telling jokes.
Above all else, Dwight was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Christine Tierney; son Jeffery Holifield and wife Amanda; daughter Sunday Brennecke and husband Steve; grandchildren Mallory Purcell, Charlie Holifield, Gus Holifield, Tyler Shea, Kaia Nicole Shea; great-granddaughter Eleanor “Ella” Holifield, and first wife, Patsy Kennon. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews: Don Andrews, Gina Rayburn, Lisa Andrews, Sheryl Morgan, and Tim Holifield. He held Christine's nieces and nephews in equally high regard: Leigh, Kate, Aislynn, Nick, Matt, and Donald. He was their Uncle D.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bart and Roma Holifield; brothers Larry and Norman; and sister Hilda Sue.
Dwight’s legacy is one of laughter shared freely, promises kept faithfully, fish tales told proudly—and above all a deep love for those closest to him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
