John William Cummins, 59, of Missouri City, TX, died Friday, January 1, 2021, surrounded by his family at home. He was born on November 15, 1961, in Port Arthur, TX, to Susan Elizabeth Cummins and William (Bill) Harold Cummins. John spent his entire childhood and young life in Nederland, TX. He graduated from Nederland High School and moved on to Lamar University where he earned his BS in Computer Science. After several co-op positions before graduation, he started his career with Shell Oil Co. in Houston. He would also go on to earn his MBA from the University of Houston as a young professional at Shell.
John began his career at Shell in 1984 and stayed with the company through 2007. Many of his closest and dearest friendships were formed and grew strong while he progressed through several different groups. He also met and married his wife Kelly, a fellow Shell employee, in November of 1992. John and Kelly were blessed with two sons, Timothy and Alan, both of whom have been the light of his life. John moved on from Shell and started a real estate photography business with his sister, Elizabeth. Houston Home Images was a successful and thriving business which enabled John to be his own boss and to be available to his children and their activities as they grew up.
John loved all sports and was active as a volunteer in many organizations. He started his Little League coaching career long before he had children of his own – he was a natural coach and loved baseball with all his heart. He participated and helped run several organizations, including Lake Olympia Swim Team, Cub Scout dens and Boy Scout troops, Missouri City Little League, and First Colony Swim Team. He was also a killer tennis player and enjoyed his time with the Tuesday night league guys. He even ran the Houston Marathon in 2007. He was also a member of Sugar Land Baptist Church.
John is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and his father-in-law. He leaves behind his wife Kelly and sons Timothy and Alan, all of Missouri City, TX; his sister Elizabeth Moore and her husband Wayne, of Brenham, TX; aunt Carolyn Eidson of Brenham, TX; uncle Harold Eidson and his wife Melinda of Georgetown, TX; aunt Sue Hassell of Little Rock, AR; mother-in-law Karen Hughes of Osceola, MO; brother-in-law Brad Hughes and his wife Jackie, of Osceola, MO; nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country including Katherine Moore, Andrew Moore, Sarah Hughes, and Travis Hughes; and many, many great friends that have been like family to him all along.
