As a teenager, she moved from North Vietnam to Saigon where she started her own business. Later, while working for the U.S. Army, she met her future husband, 1st Sergeant Mackey “Gene” Lunsford. The two were married in Vietnam and remained together for 48 years until Gene’s death in 2019.
Le was always looking out for others. As one of the first of her family to immigrate to the United States, she helped countless relatives come to America and achieve citizenship. She was a woman of faith, attending church at various Catholic parishes wherever she lived.
She was also very entrepreneurial, starting retail businesses in Oregon, Houston, and Louisiana. She used those businesses to offer a hand to people who needed a job, a break, or just some human kindness. But Le was most proud of her roles as wife, mother, and grandma. She often showed her love for family (and all extended family, friends and acquaintances) through her delicious Vietnamese cooking.
She is survived by her daughter, Gale Smith, Gale’s husband, Kese, and her grandsons, Grayson and Zachary.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 13 at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Missouri City, Texas 77459, with Father John Cahoon officiating. Inurnment will be on Thursday, March 18 at Houston National Cemetery with long-time family friend Father Charles Samperi officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Angela Merici, which provided her great comfort in her final years.
