Maria Azucena Naboulsi

Maria Azucena “Nening” Naboulsi passed away November 26, 2025, in the arms of her loved ones, including her partner Alex and her two adored and adoring children, Maarouf and Mariam.

Nening was born July 3, 1953, in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, Philippines. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from the University of St Lasalle. Shortly thereafter in 1980, she moved to Houston, Texas. She soon starting working at Baylor College of Medicine for the better part of her professional career moving up the ranks in the facility services department, all while raising her son and daughter and pursuing a vibrant social, professional, and personal life.

For the past 15 years she was a Senior Executive Assistant at the corporate offices of Memorial Hermann in Memorial City – and was beloved by her extended work family.

Nening loved traveling with her loved ones, especially her son. She loved to cook, to nourish others with her cooking, and she enjoyed sharing meals out with friends and family. Though she was not particular about material things, she had impeccable taste and loved the thrill of shopping. She loved to go dancing with her partner Alex and particularly loved the community and joy of Texas line dancing. She relished games of nerve and cunning like mahjong and poker; Nening was never easily bluffed at the Texas hold‘em table. She was also a skilled and patient gardener and loved tending to her calamansi fruit tree, sharing its offering with those she loved. Nening’s numerous friends all agree that she brought any social gathering to life. She always stayed in close touch with lifelong friends and always warmly embraced new friends. Nening attended Saint Laurence Catholic Church and found peace and community observing mass there. Above all, she lived to mother and nurture her two children.

Nening was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Herminia Labayen Abaygar; her father, Fernando Gasinga Abaygar; her sister Ninfa and her brothers George, Melvin, and Ferdinand. She is survived by her brother Sonny and her sister Rose; her ex-husband and father of her children, Reda Naboulsi; her partner of 15 years, Alex Belote; and her children, Maarouf and Mariam.

The family would like to give special thanks to the numerous friends and colleagues who expressed their loving grief and cherished support during the final months of her life.
