Rainier Palermo Habervo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2025, at the age of 66. Born in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, on October 14, 1958, to Alfredo Habervo and Amelia Habervo (née Palermo), Rainier grew up with a deep love for family, music, and learning. In 1992, he and his children moved to Houston, Texas, to join his wife Gloria, planting roots that would grow into a beautiful life surrounded by love and laughter.
Rainier worked for the Harris County Department of Engineering as a Boiler Operator, a role he performed with dedication and pride. A self-taught handyman, he could fix or build just about anything — always organized, always precise. If Rainier did something, he did it right.
But his true calling was his family. He was a devoted husband to Gloria, a hands-on father to Arlene, Jasmine, and Cathrine, a proud grandfather to Armin, and a supportive father-in-law to Gerry. Rainier was the kind of man who never met a stranger — he would spark up conversations with anyone, especially veterans, making everyone feel seen, valued, and at home. He was known for dropping everything to help others, no matter how full his plate was.
Rainier had a deep admiration for World War II history, a passion he shared with his children by attending the Wings Over Houston Airshow year after year. His love of music — especially The Beatles, CCR, and the Eagles — filled the rooms of his home, often alongside the sound of his guitar. He also loved the open road on his motorcycle, and the joy of tinkering with cars and projects in his garage.
He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church since 1996, and attended worship services at Sugar Creek Baptist Church with wife Gloria. He also proudly served as the Vice President of the Houston Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. Rainier lived his life with purpose and loyalty.
Rainier is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Teodolo, and cherished dogs, Kookie and Max. He is survived by his wife, Gloria; daughters Arlene, Jasmine (with husband Girard), and Cathrine; grandson Armin; and many extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
A public memorial service will be held at Dignity Memorial – The Settegast-Kopf Company @ Sugar Creek (15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478):
