
ROBERT EDWIN GOURLEY, 62 of Missouri City, TX passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2013 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. He was born on April 13, 1950 to the late Robert Gourley and Jeanne D. Gourley of Jamestown, NY.
Bob attended Rochester Institute of Technology where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. After college, Bob moved to California and began his career with Burger King Corporation. Bob and his wife Laurie met through Burger King and were married in 1985. During his time with Burger King Corporation, Bob served in many capacities while rising to the position of Vice President & Region General Manager. In 1989, Bob and his partner and wife Laurie opened their first of 5 Burger King franchise stores serving the Houston area. Devoted to the food service industry, Bob also acted as Regional President of the Burger King National Franchisee Association.
Bob loved sports. He was a great golfer, tennis player and an avid fisherman. Bob was a familiar face at Sweetwater Country Club and served as treasurer of his homeowner’s association. His many long time friends will miss his companionship, keen sense of humor and words of wisdom.
Robert is survived by his wife of 27 years, Laurie Gourley, his daughter Cara Jean Gourley, his two sisters Kathy Gourley of Jamestown, NY and Cindy Anderson of Matthews, NC, his foster daughter Anna Ruiz and his beloved dog Toby.
A Memorial Service and Reception will be held on Sunday, January 27th from 2pm – 4pm at Settegast-Kopf Funeral Home in Sugar Land, TX (15015 Southwest Freeway at the Williams Trace exit).
In lieu of flowers, Bob preferred that any memorial donations be made to a college education fund he instituted for the benefit of his foster daughter Anna. Details will be posted on CaraGourley.com.
