

WAYNE MICHAEL VERONA, age 79, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013. He was born in Park Falls, Wisconsin, on December 24, 1933, to Otto John Verona and Marie Louise Waltz Verona. Wayne graduated from Park Falls High School and went on to Superior State. He loved basketball and played at both schools. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953, and was stationed in Texas, Mississippi, Minnesota, and Japan, where he ran the flight simulator. In 1957, he came back home and married Nancy Mason his wife of 55 years. They moved to Milwaukee where he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. In 1959, he went to work for A.C. Spark Plug in Milwaukee and joined their Missile Guidance Field Service group and moved to Baltimore, MD, and then Columbus, OH. Ten years later he took a job with GE in Pittsfield, MA. A few years later he decided he had enough of snow and cold and joined Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX, where he stayed for 30 years working in Richardson, Austin, Plano, and Stafford, TX for them. After retiring he enjoyed working part-time for the Earthman Funeral Homes and The Settegast-Kopf Co. He will be remembered by us for his strong work ethic, and love for family, church and sports.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita, Joan, Valeria, Patricia, Mary and Laura; and his brothers, John and James. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann Mason Verona; sons, Michael Louis Verona and his wife Penny, Montgomery Alan Verona, and Matthew Thomas Verona and his wife Lisa; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kymberly, Daniel, David, Alexina, and Isabella Verona; great-grandchild Shaun Verona; sister, Leah Bixby; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77478, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 14, 2013, in The Chapel of The Divine Mercy @ St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77479, with the Rev. Tom Hawxhurst, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow at 12:30 PM, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038, with full military honors.
