

He was born in New Mexico, raised in Oklahoma, and had been a resident of Sulphur since 1962. Alva was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He had worked as a Pharmacy Manager for Rexall Drug Co. in Beaumont and retired as a Pharmaceutical Representative for Jefferson Drug Co. after 30 years of service. Upon his retirement, he began working for Caleb Brett Inspection Service. Alva enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church.
Survivors include three children, Gregory English and wife, Jean, Sharyn Stanley and husband, Pat, and Phillip English and wife, Judy, all of Sulphur; his sister, Eva Lewis of Pensacola, Florida; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen English; and two brothers, Edward "Leroy" English and J.R. "Buddy" English.
His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, November 12, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Charley Watson will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South. Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday in the funeral home.
