Bernice Cormier Martin, 90, of Vinton, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. She was born to her late parents, Ovey and Agnes Cormier on May 29, 1935 in Eunice, Louisiana. She was a bus attendant with Calcasieu Parish Schools for over 40 years. Bernice enjoyed watching Days of Our Lives Soap Opera, playing Pokeno, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Gerald Glenn Martin (Pam) of Vinton, Louisiana, Donald Edward Martin of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Jacqueline Gail Schexnider (Mark) of Vinton, Louisiana, and Rhonda Louise Clement (Richard) of Lake Charles, Louisiana; three siblings, Silton Cormier of Scott, Louisiana, Gus Paul Cormier of Sulphur, Louisiana, and Virginia Agnes Taylor of Iowa, Louisiana; eleven grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; along with numerous great-great grandchildren.
Bernice is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Walter Martin; one son, Lenard Keith Martin; her parents; along with her siblings, Red Cormier, Lee Lewis Cormier, Leonard George Cormier, Calvin Cormier, Cary Anthony Cormier, Elta Fruge, Ella Mae Miller, Ruby Mary Miller, and Rena Marie Spearing.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vinton, Louisiana on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 am, with Father Carlos Garcia officiating. Visitation will be at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 pm. Visitation will resume at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, from 8:00 am until the procession to the church. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, Louisiana.
