He was a native of Shreveport and was a longtime resident of the Sulphur-Westlake area. Derek enjoyed traveling, playing soccer, and educating others. He was considered a "teacher of life" in general. He worked with the Jurassic Quest crew for the last 2 1/2 years.
Survivors include his spouse, Mikey Vincent of Sulphur; his mother, Stacey Ebarb of Moss Bluff; mother and father-in-law, Cindy and Mike Vincent of Sulphur; grandparents, Patrick Ebarb of Zwolle, Sandra Sepulvado of Moss Bluff, and Sue Salley of Shreveport; two brothers, Hunter and Dakota; aunts, Ashlee Guidry and husband, Eric of Westlake, and Janie Ebarb of Zwolle, sister and brother-in-law, Ashley and Kenneth Berry of Vinton; nephew, Kaimen Berry; and niece, Braylee Sistrunk.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Salley, Jr; grandfather, Charles Salley, Sr; his great-grandmother, Polly Sandifer; and his sisters, Ava Grace and Miranda Faith.
A Celebration of Derek's Life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home led by Jody Barrilleaux, Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to help with medical and funeral expenses.
