Doris Elaine Saunier, 85, of Sulphur, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025. She was born to her late parents, Carl and Lela Mae Welch on August 5, 1940 in Calcasieu Community, Louisiana. Doris enjoyed sewing especially for her children and cooking for her family. She enjoyed watching Westerns and tending to her vegetable garden. Doris was an avid LSU and New Orleans Saints fan. When football was unavailable, she enjoyed watching Tennis. Doris worked at D.S. Perkins Elementary as a paraprofessional where she was awarded Paraprofessional of the year. She loved her children and was especially skilled at making 3D bulletin boards for her classroom. She also enjoyed reading stories like the "Three Little Pigs" and would like to be remembered as someone "who loved helping children".
Survivors include her children: Sheree Peoples and husband, Ronnie of Mouliets-Et Villemartin, France, John Robert Saunier and wife, Heather of Iowa, and Jolene Rollins and husband, Chris of Sulphur; one brother, Thomas Dewitt Welch (Miriam) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; seven grandchildren: D'Yon Dowell, Ashley Flowers, Keegan Saunier, Jacob Atkinson, Mary Rollins, Brooke Saunier, and Webb Mallett; along with eight great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Calvin Saunier; her parents; along with three brothers: Virgil Welch, Clayton Welch, and Clifford Welch.
A Celebration of Doris's life will be held at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur, Louisiana on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 12:30 pm, with Bro. Jim Fisher officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be at Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Methodist Children's Home of Southwest Louisiana in Sulphur, Louisiana.
