On Friday, November 14, our beloved, beautiful and courageous matriarch, Elder Marie Richard Lyons,94, aka Mrs. Joseph Bosman Lyons, Jr., passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Church Point, LA on June 15, 1920.
Mrs. Lyons wore many hats in her lifetime. As a professional woman who raised five children and ran her own business she was a trailblazer and a role model. Her marriage of over fifty years and her legacy are a testament to her love for her family.
Mrs. Lyons, GRI, was a highly respected Broker/Realtor, active in the real estate business from about 1961 until her death. She owned and operated Lyons Real Estate in Sulphur for nearly fifty years, was a member of the Calcasieu Board of Realtors, a member of the state and national boards of Realtors and the Women's Council of Realtors and she was also an appraiser. Among her many accomplishments, she was the first woman Broker west of the Calcasieu River. This past year she was honored by the Southwest Louisiana Board of Realtors as being the oldest living member in the region.
Mrs. Lyons was a devoted and active parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, including as a member of the Serra Club, the church choir, and also of the Silver Singers. She was a cub scout denmother and cathechism teacher at Prompt Succor for many years.
She was also a member of the Louisiana Preservation Society and an original member of the Sulphur Mines Historical Society.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Joseph Bosman "J.B." Lyons, Jr; her parents, Joseph and Adenezia Richard; and her siblings, Louis Richard, Phillip Richard, Bennett Richard, Clovis Richard, Felicia Richard, and Mary Belle Trahan.
Survivors include her children, Dorothy Lyons "Tookie" Belile of Houston, Texas, Phillip "Bud" Lyons, Sr. and wife, Gina of Alvin, Texas, Kenneth Paul Lyons and wife, Jean of Sulphur, Richard Joseph "Dickie" Lyons, Sr. of Winnie, Texas, and Marie Elder Lyons and husband, Gary Parks of Houston, Texas; nineteen grandchildren, Phillip Lyons, Jr, Wilton "W.J." Lyons, Tracey Escamilla, Jennifer Johnson, Joseph Bosman Lyons III, Michelle Marguerite "Missy" Mancil, Edward Daniel Lyons, Victoria M. "Torie" Lyons, Richard Lyons Jr, Charles Walton Lyons, Christy Anne Dudley, Timothy Armand Lyons, Andrew Matthias Lyons, Johnathan Micah Lyons, Elisabeth Anne "Lisa" Belile, Michael Andre Belile, Shanna Marie Belile, Matthew Parks, and Amy Parks. She is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren, Andrew Bodhi Belile Lucchesi, Logan Bennett-Lyons, Wilton Joseph Lyons Jr, Samantha Lyons, Jayden Escamilla, Raymond Paul Casteel, Christopher Daniel Mancil, Helen Lois Neri Mancil, Travis Lee Lyons, Brittany Broussard, Dustin Broussard, Caleb Widcamp, Anthony Lyons Kores, Richard Joseph Lyons III, Caden Cy Dudley, Olivia Lynne Dudley, and Lillian Marie Dudley; and five great-great-grandchildren, Threassa Lynn Mancil, Kallieleanne Mancil, Francie Casteel, Shaylee Zimmer, and Parker Broussard.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, November 17, in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. The Rev. D.B. Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Sulphur under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The pallbearers will be Andrew Lyons, Johnathan Lyons, Richard Lyons Jr., Matthew Parks, Charles Lyons and Wilton Lyons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ray Kebodeaux, Neri Mancil, Samantha Lyons, Michelle "Missy" Lyons, Tracey Escamilla, Amy Parks, Victoria "Torie" Lyons, Margaret Hebert, Michael Roach, Raleigh Newman, Dr. Charles Smith, Steve Frank, Karen Savant and Mike Sheffied, Presentation of Offertory gifts will be Lisa Belile, Andrew Lucchesi and Bodhi Lucchesi
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Sunday with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. and from 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Lyons' caregivers and Harbor Hospice whose excellent care enabled her to be at home; and are forever grateful to her beloved niece Margaret Hebert for being their special angel.
