

He was born in Saltville, Virginia and was a lifelong resident of the Lake Charles-Sulphur area. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. James had served several years as a police officer and retired in telecommunications. He was a private pilot and hamm radio operator and often enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing chess.
Survivors include his children, Tracy Ellender (husband David) and Paula Marler (husband Shannon) all of Sulphur, and Chris Frye (wife Kristie) of Beaumont, Texas; siblings, Pansy Vandever of DeRidder and Charles Frye of Moss Bluff; grandchildren, Troy Frye, Brandon Ellender (wife Laura), Blake Ellender, Macy Baudin (husband Sam), Ashley Lovejoy (husband Matt), Victoria Marler, Ariel Frye, Britney Frye, Hunter Frye, Amber Frye, Damon Frye, Derek Frye, and Dustin Frye; four great-grandchildren; and his beloved pets, Annie, Kallie, Panda, and Sparky. He is preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Elmer and Ann Frye; mother and step-father, Hazel and Frank LeDoux; son, James Broeske Frye, Jr; sister, Joyce Ballentine; and pet, Malee.
His funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service in the funeral home.
