He was a native of DeQuincy and had been a longtime resident of Sulphur. James graduated in the first graduating class of South Beauregard High School. After high school he joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served from 1971-1977 as a Fuel Specialist. Upon his return from the service, he worked as a pipefitter and boilermaker. James loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and camping.
He leaves behind his two sons, Justin Lee Jensen and wife, Sarah, and James Matthew Jensen and wife, Nikki, all of Sulphur; his step-father, Charles Potts of Hemphill, Texas; his brothers, Kenneth Jensen of DeQuincy, Markel Jensen of Sulphur, and Buddy Lyons of Florida; the mother of his sons, Kathy Alexander of Sulphur; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. He is preceded in death by his father, Harry Jean Jensen; his mother, Eathline Potts; and his sisters, Renee Hudson and Judy Coleman.
As per his wishes, cremation arrangements will be entrusted to Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff of Grand Cove Care Center and Brighton Bridge Hospice for the excellent care that was given to Mr. Jensen.
