“Well done, my good and faithful servant.” Faye was a lifelong resident of Sulphur and a charter member of Celebration Worship Center. She faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and served in leadership in many other ministries throughout her life, always demonstrating a true servant’s heart.
The Lord blessed Granny and Paw Paw with a warm and loving home “just down the road from the snow cone stand” where the doors were always open for Bible studies, youth and children’s pool parties, family game nights, and fellowship. Most importantly, Faye always had an open seat for you next to her if you needed someone to listen, hold your hand, pray with you, and pour Holy Spirit led wisdom into your life. She hosted countless special gatherings in her home to do kingdom work for the Lord through love and fellowship. Faye was truly a woman of God, carrying the joy of the Lord into every room she entered. Her radiant smile and laughter were like sunshine, and she always had an encouraging word for you, speaking Biblical truth in love as she shared her Jesus with everyone the Lord blessed to be put in her path.
At Cameron Telephone Company, Faye was the friendly, smiling face who greeted all who entered. She proudly served as a Customer Service Representative for more than 30 years before her retirement.
Faye was a member of the Silver Strings Band, where she played the ukulele, and she volunteered with the Calcasieu Council on Aging. She enjoyed crafting, scrapbooking, and especially babies. Granny adored all of her adopted in love grandchildren and treasured time spent loving and caring for them. She cherished time with family and friends, including her lifelong best friend, Joanne McLemore, with whom she enjoyed weekly family game nights. She also loved shopping for pretty things so she could always look her very best for her “Honey,” and shopping for Christmas decorations for her home alongside her dear friend Yvonne LeJeune, who was like a daughter to her. Faye also enjoyed traveling on special trips with her sisters Ruth, Becky, and Opal, along with their husbands.
Second only to her love for Jesus was her devotion to her beloved husband and best friend of more than 65½ years, her “Honey.” Their marriage was a shining example of what the Lord intended marriage to be. Even when Bob was stationed in Salinas, California, 2000 miles could not separate their love as Faye packed up a 1960 Falcon and drove across the country to surprise her groom. The Lord used this special journey of her bravely stepping out to lead them to their beloved son, Dwayne. Pawpaw was the very definition of a Godly husband, providing the utmost loving care with excellence for his bride. Their love remains their lasting legacy and will endure for eternity. “It burns like a blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away.” Song of Songs 8:6-7
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Bobby Kyson of Sulphur; her sister Opal Umpierre of Marion, Texas, and her husband, Frank; her beloved Matthew, who always lit his Granny’s face with the biggest smile the moment she saw or heard him, and his wife, Courtney Genna of Sulphur; and their children, Alexander (Granny’s angel boy), Nicholas (Pawpaw’s partner), and Emerson.
