Sulphur- Thomas Joseph Mihalcik, 70, died Saturday, February 11, 2017, in his residence.
He was a native of Pensacola, Florida and had been a resident of Sulphur for the last 48 years. Tom started as an intern on June 13, 1968 with Conoco, now Phillips 66, where he remained employed for the last 48 years. After earning his BS degree in Chemical Engineering, he returned and worked as a Process Engineer trainee. He worked in various capacities such as Staff Engineer, Senior Staff Engineer, Controls Engineer, Lead Consultant, and more. At the time of his retirement, Tom was an Advanced Control Engineer. He was known as the "go to" guy at work and served as a knowledgeable and patient mentor to many over the years.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He received the Advance Process Control Network Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, and was involved in creating two U.S. patents. He was an extremely kind, gentle and intelligent person. He was a Florida Gator fan, a great husband, and an amazing father to his three daughters.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Sylvia Warren Mihalcik of Sulphur his daughters, Julie Mihalcik of Balston Spa, New York, Paula Mihalcik and husband, Carl Burch, and their children, Thomas and Warren of Kirkland, Washington, and Jamie Mihalcik and partner, Aaron Duhon of Lake Charles; his mother, Emilia Mihalcik of Valparaiso, Florida; siblings, Mike Mihalcik and wife, Donna of Niceville, Florida, Amelia Mihalcik and partner, Bill Eardley of Valparaiso, Florida, James Mihalcik and wife, Sue of New York, New York, and Lori Groat and husband, Chris of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; his mother-in-law, Miriam Warren of Valparaiso, Florida; brother-in-law, Billy Warren and wife, Katy of Diamondhead, Mississippi; and sisters-in-law, Ann Decker and husband, Doug of Niceville, Florida, and Kathy Warren of Bunnell, Florida.
A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held February 24, from 5-8pm at Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held in Consolata Cemetery in Lake Charles.
