

Gene was born on September 26, 1931 in Berthold, North Dakota and passed away on September 25, 2014, one day shy of his 83rd birthday. A long-time resident of the Puyallup- Sumner area, Gene was a recent resident of Federal Way, having relocated there permanently from their wintertime home in Green Valley, Arizona. His wife Dorothy, whom he married in 1975, survives Gene. He also is survived by daughters Chris and Jody and stepdaughters Rita, Nita and Francis. His daughter Diane preceded him in death. He had 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Gene also leaves behind many friends, as he never forgot a face. A meat cutter since high school, Gene owned the Sumner Meat Market since 1961. He also was the owner of Valley Meats.
Gene was physically active all his life. He especially loved trap shooting. He spent many evenings at the Sumner Gun Club, where he won many awards. Before retirement, he enjoyed fishing in Ilwaco in his boat. After retirement, he became an avid golfer, driving and putting to a 9 handicap. Gene was a 52-year member of the Puyallup Elks. There will be a time of visitation from 3:00 to 7:00 on Monday, September 29,2014 at Powers Funeral Home in Sumner. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Sumner City Cemetery.
