
He leaves his wife of 33 years, Mary Ellen (Walsh) Nakata; his son, Gregory M. Nakata of New York City, NY; his daughter Lisa (Nakata) Burney of Fayetteville NC; his mother, Miyo J. Nakata, his sister, Keiko (Nakata) Thompson, and his brother, Jimmy M. Nakata, all of Honolulu, HI.
George was born in Okinawa, Japan to Takeo Nakata and Miyo Nakata. He was raised in Hawaii where he later met Mary Ellen. George was a war veteran of the Vietnam War for which he served in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. He was employed by United Airlines for 27 years as an aircraft mechanic at San Francisco International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. He was previously employed by Braniff International Airways and Reupublic Airlines.
George had a passion for cooking and loved making futomaki sushi every New Years for his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling around the world for work and training, as well as with his family. George also held a commercial pilot license to which he logged 275 flight hours between 1973 and 1977. He enjoyed listening to classical music and woodworking.
