Bohn Eugene Wanamaker, 98, passed away peacefully in his home on June 27, 2023. Born September 13, 1924 to Marion Lucelle Wanamaker in Minneapolis, MN. Bohn was raised by his grandparents, spending his youth in Estherville, IA. He married Clela Jensen October 19, 1946, while in the Army and served in the early occupation of Japan after WWII. Following his honorable discharge, Bohn retuned to Minnesota where he and Clela made their home. Bohn’s career as a postman in Wayzata, MN became legendary where he was known for his friendly, kind service under all conditions and hearty work ethic as related in stories in the local paper. He began work as a projectionist in Estherville, IA and this experience led to similar positions in the U.S. Army and local theatres for many years to come. He coached Clela, who was a nationally recognized archer, member of the U.S. Archery team and is in the Minnesota Archery Hall of Fame. He designed, handmade and tested all the arrows she used during her career. In 1980 Bohn and Clela retired to Sun City West, AZ. Bohn gained his pilot’s license at a time when most were looking to retire. Bohn’s “active retirement” included many hours working with the Civil Air Patrol, Sun City West Sherriff’s Deputies and veteran’s organizations. His love, admiration, devotion and caring for Clela throughout their marriage was well recognized by all who knew them. Dogs were always an important part of Bohn and Clela’s lives. With no children, these companions (and the occasional cat) took on special significance and enjoyment. Bohn was preceded in death by his wife Clela, Clela’s sister Lila (Jensen) Borchers and her husband Elmer. Bohn is survived by a niece, Rochelle (Borchers) Hanson of Port St. Lucie, FL and her husband Robert; two nephews, Randy (Randall) Borchers of Viola, WI and his wife Pooka Ness; and Terry Borchers of Matamata, New Zealand and his wife Esther Irwin.
