Her sister, Yeta Florence, was 4 years older than her.
Her youth was spent with 3 great friends: Barbara Rickles, Reda Brown, and Bobbie Guralnick. They all loved dancing, even appearing multiple times on the Philadelphia version of American Bandstand. Weekends were spent "down the shore" and attending synagogue dances, known as "shul fights".
She met the love of her life, Ronald Greenberg, at one such dance, and after their first date, Ronnie pronounced "I'm going to marry you". And so they did..on April 12, 1959.
Together, they raised two beautiful daughters-Kimberly Ellen and Joy Hope in Cherry Hill, NJ. Those early days were spent with weekends down the shore, spending holidays with
"Aunt Bobbie" and her extended family, and backyard BBQS.
As their girls got older, the family spent their time attending and supporting Kim's high school theater productions, and Joy's lacrosse and soccer games; weekend trips to the Atlantic City Casinos were a common theme, as well.
They were overjoyed to attend Kim's undergraduate graduation at the University of Delaware, and her Master's graduation from Vanderbilt University. They were equally excited to attend Joy's graduation from Arizona State University.
They whole-heartedly welcomed Adam Hart into the family as Kim's spouse in 1993, and enjoyed hosting, entertaining, and cooking for the entire Hart clan over the years. They were extremely proud grandparents to twins Ashlee and Zachary. and "baby" Hailey-frequently bragging about the accomplishments of their grandchildren to all who would listen.
Sadly, after 54 years of marriage, Ronnie passed in January 2013. Char was never interested in remarrying, instead turning her focus on exercise, healthy eating, and spending time with her family, her friends and her cats.
In 2021, she happily moved in with Kim and Adam, enjoying her role as "Matriarch of the Family", and relishing having her own Personal Assistant, Chef and Chauffeur. She cherished spending Passovers, Thanksgivings' and Hanukkahs with the family. She enjoyed road trips to California and Oregon, as well as being able to witness Zach's graduation as an Electrician, Ashlee's graduation as a Pharmacist, and Hailey's graduation as a Nurse.
Notably, she particularly enjoyed sending Ashlee off to her Post-Pharmacy Graduation to her Peace Health Residency, attending Hailey and Stephen's wedding in June, and celebrating Zachary and Natalie's engagement.
As we reflect on Charlene's life, we are reminded of the importance of family and friends, making a better world for our children and grandchildren, fostering a love of animals, enjoying good food, and finding humor, laughter and love in the everyday.
May her memory be for a blessing. Zichronah livracha.
