Howard was known for being a compassionate and caring man. He lived a life dedicated to understanding and supporting others—a rare and steadfast presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Born on November 2, 1939, in Saginaw, Michigan, Howard showed a deep empathy for others, a quality that would follow him throughout his life. After graduating from high school, Howard pursued higher education at Michigan State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration.
Following his studies, Howard proudly served in the United States Army. His service embodied the dedication, discipline, and quiet strength that so many came to admire in him. Upon returning home, Howard began to build the life and family he cherished most.
In 1967, Howard married Joan Kay Armstrong, the love of his life and his partner in all things. Their marriage was built on mutual respect, deep affection, and a shared joy in the simple pleasures of life. Together, they raised their son, Kyle Landon, and daughter, Mari Colleen, nurturing them with the same compassion and understanding that defined Howard’s own character. Howard and Joan enjoyed 56 years together before her passing in 2024, a union marked by devotion, laughter, and enduring companionship.
Professionally and personally, Howard approached every endeavor with patience and thoughtfulness. He was known for his ability to listen, to offer calm counsel, and to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. His friends and family remember him as a steady presence—someone who could always be counted on to show up, whether with quiet wisdom or a gentle smile.
Outside of his professional life, Howard found beauty and purpose in creative expression and travel. He devoted many happy hours to creating pottery, discovering both art and tranquility in shaping clay with his hands. Later in life, he and his wife shared countless adventures exploring the country in their RV, a pastime that allowed him to pair his love of the open road with his appreciation for nature and new experiences.
Howard’s faith was an essential part of his identity. As a member of Christ’s Church of the Valley (CCV), he found a spiritual home that encouraged fellowship, reflection, and community service. His belief in kindness, forgiveness, and gratitude guided not only his worship but his daily interactions with others.
Howard is survived by his children, Kyle (Mary) Greene and Mari Greene, as well as granddaughters, Mary Beth and Melody Greene. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Joan.
The family has entrusted Howard’s care to Sunland Mortuary. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal services. Those who knew Howard are invited to remember him in their own ways.
