James Howard Frasher, of Surprise, Arizona, passed away surrounded by the love of his family after a three-year battle with cancer. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jim leaves behind a legacy of service, intellect, and deep connection to those he loved.
Jim was born on October 9, 1947, in Walsenburg, Colorado, and raised in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1965 before attending the University of Arkansas, where he proudly embraced his Razorback roots (“Woo Pig Sooie!”). He went on to earn his law degree from Southern Methodist University, beginning a distinguished legal career that would span decades.
Jim began his career with the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office before moving into private practice. In 1992, he was sworn in as a Pueblo County Court Judge, and three years later, he was appointed to the 10th Judicial District Court bench. He served the people of Pueblo with integrity and thoughtfulness until his retirement in 2002. Jim was especially proud of his work as a member of the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk Project Commission, leaving a lasting impact on the community he cared for deeply.
In 1982, Jim married Cheryl, the love of his life and together they built a life centered on family, friendship and shared commitment.
Outside of his professional life, Jim was a man of many passions. A lifelong golfer, he found great joy on the course, especially when sharing those moments with family and friends. He took particular pride in watching several of his grandchildren pick up their first golf clubs. An avid reader, artist, and sports fan, Jim approached life with curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm.
Above all, Jim loved his family and was always quick to tell them so. His grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life, will carry forward his spirit, humor, and warmth.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Frasher; children James Frasher III and his wife Beth, Tisha White and husband Brian, and Trevor Emery and wife Amy; his siblings, Linda Frasher Meigs and husband Danny Meigs, and Ken Ready and wife Linda and numerous nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Meigs (Leo Lansford) , Erin (Todd) Burmeister and Brandon (Kaylene) Ready.
