

John W. Newton, peacefully passed away at 11:30 a.m., October 26, 2015, at his home in Sun City West, Arizona, after losing his battle with cancer. He went into God’s arms, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Streator, Illinois on December 3, 1920. John graduated from Streator Township High School, class of 1939, where he proudly played football and baseball. He often sang the Bulldogs fight song. He was an avid golfer and bowler. John was in the United States Army, during WWII. After his time in the army, he worked for the United States Postal Service for 40 years. He also worked at Owens Illinois Glass factory, after his retirement, for 5 years. He was a member of the American Legion.
John played the horn, loved riding his motorcycle, and never missed a good game of cards. He loved singing and had happy dance, all his own. He brought joy to many, his smile lit up the room, his laughter, contagious. He was an avid sports fan, and very patriotic, with a deep heartfelt pride in the USA. He was a very kind and loving husband and father. He was a very humble man, who loved his ice cream, every night at bedtime.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Marie (Lantzer-Hawthorne) Newton; his parents, Jonathan Newton and Mae (Ryan) Newton; his brothers Lawrence (Max) and Arthur Newton; sister-in-laws, Oneta and Shirley, respectively. He is survived by his daughter, Candice (Hawthorne) Krstulja, his son-in-law Dwight Krstulja, both of Sun City West, Arizona; his nephew, Chuck Newton; his niece, Carol Newton, of Streator, Illinois; and his beloved, two grand cats. We will always miss your presence. We love you, Dad.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 2, at Sunland Funeral Home, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, Arizona, 85351, (623)933-0161. Visitation is at 11:00 a.m., funeral service is at 12:00 p.m., and graveside service is at 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
