

Marian Garrett, age 97, died at her residence in Sun City, Arizona, on Sunday, October 9th, 2016. Formerly from Salem, she moved to Arizona in 2014 to be near family who were with her at the time of her passing.
Amy Marian Garrett was born to Francis and Amy (Hults) Sipes on December 8, 1918 in rural Omega Township. She married Thomas L. Garrett in Alma, Illinois, on June 18, 1949. Tom preceded her in death on October 31st, 1983. Their union was blessed by one son, Thomas L. Garrett, Jr. who currently resides with his wife, Renita, in Glendale, Arizona.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marian was preceded in death by two brothers, their wives, and a sister: Woodson and Armethia Simer; James and Sonja Sipes; and Geneva Sipes Boyd. She leaves her son, Tom (Renita) Garrett of Glendale, AZ; granddaughter, Erin Garrett Dobler (Matt) of Phoenix, AZ; grandson Zachary (Chelsea) Garrett of Salem, IL; and beloved great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Grace Dobler, of Phoenix, AZ.
Marian touched the lives of many of Salem’s families as an elementary teacher during her 35 year career in the classroom. Following her retirement, she spent many hours volunteering at Salem Township Hospital while still enjoying her grandchildren, church activities, Bridge Club, and social outings with friends.
Following her wishes, arrangements for Marian’s cremation and interment in Salem’s Paradise Cemetery are being made through Sunland Mortuary of Sun City, AZ and Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home of Salem, IL. Memorials may be made through Rogers-Atkins to Grace United Methodist Church of Salem.
