Sara, 76, of Sun City, Arizona completed her peaceful passing at her apartment at Royal Oaks on September 27, 2016. Sara Gasta was born in Saginaw, Michigan, December 10, 1939 to Robert and Mildred Lyman. She attended Western Michigan and Bay City Junior College. In 1960 Sara worked in Washington D.C as a secretary for the Naval Department. She returned to Saginaw in 1961 and began work for New York Life insurance as a secretary. In December of 1961 she became engaged to William Gasta and they were married on May 19, 1962. Sara continued to work in retail sales, in various secretarial assignments, and as and administrative assistant to two psychologists. Sara was an avid reader and read over 1,235 books, her favorite were mystery novels. Sara loved watching TV detective-crime shows. Beginning in 1993 Sara began serious studies of esoteric subjects for seven years at the Chesterfield Seminary, Chesterfield, Indiana with Rev. Louise Irvine and continued studies with the International Spiritualist Federation at Finley College in Stansted, England. Sara was proud to be an active yoga student for 47 years. Sara sewed all her children’s clothes in their early years, knitted an unknown number of sweaters and shawls, she enjoyed needlepointing of British designed patterns and embroidered many quilts and blankets for family members. Sara & Bill celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in May, 2016. Sara and Bill lived in following cities in their married life, including Bay City, MI, Dayton, OH, Arlington, TX, Indianapolis, IN and Surprise, AZ. Sara is survived by her husband Bill and her children; Maria (and Glen Abrams), Lake Lotawana, MO, Steven, (and Linda) South Windsor, CT, Thomas, (and Chelsey Rasmussen) Carmel, IN, and Rebecca (and Scott Harrison) Thayer, Issaquah, WA. She also treasured her nine grandchildren, Laura Abrams, Thomas Abrams, Samuel Abrams, Emily Gasta, Ethan Gasta, Benjamin Gasta, Joseph Gasta, Luke Gasta, and Charlie Thayer. Sara is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mildred Lyman, and sister Sue Rose McCologan. Sara is also survived by her brother Thomas Lyman, Flushing, MI. A memorial service will be held at Unity Spiritual Center, 10101 West Coggins Drive, Sun City, AZ 85351, on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment ceremony at Sunland Mortuary, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351, directly following.
