Shirley was born in Brooklyn, New York to Ruth and Samuel John Helfner. She graduated Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, New York. Shirley married David Arlen on December 24, 1952 “under the stars” in a traditional Jewish Ceremony on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn. Shirley and David moved to Massapequa New York and raised three children before retiring to Sun City West, AZ. Shirley was very active in her community and especially enjoyed playing golf with her husband David. In addition, Shirley was an active member of the Handi-Capables club, which would meet regularly for swim aerobics. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband David, and brothers, Jules and Benjamin.
Shirley is survived by her three children, Fern, Lynne and Phyllis, Sons-In-Law Ron and Michael and Grandchildren Tiffany and Noah.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society or Hadassah would be greatly appreciated by the family.
