

William C. Brandel, 86, ended his journey on earth on April 4, 2012. He was born April 7, 1926 in the Southwestern Tier of NY state to the late Simon F. Brandel and Anna Dillon Brandel. He attended Allegany High School and graduated from the Business School of nearby St. Bonaventure University.
Bill worked at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY where he retired after 30 years of service. He and his wife Shirley moved to Arizona in 1984 where Bill enjoyed several years of golfing.
During WWII, Bill served with the 100th Infantry Division in France and Germany and was wounded in combat on April 4, 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. Bill was a Life Member and served as Chaplain of the Sun Cities Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 691 for several years.
Bill and Shirley are parishioners of St. Clements of Rome Catholic Church in Sun City. He especially enjoyed serving as altar boy for the parish for several years.
Bill was also a member of the American Legion remaining affiliated with Post 892 in his home town of Allegany, NY. He retained a Life Membership in the American Society for Industrial Security.
Bill is survived by his wife Shirley; sister Patricia Finan of Altoona, Florida; daughters Marilyn A. Berretta (Carmen) of Webster, NY and Karen Jean Brandel of Tucson, AZ; grandsons Matthew Barretta and Andrew Berretta (Mara) both of Rochester, NY. Bill’s only son, William Jr., died in 1977. Shirley’s daughters Marjorie Howard of Loveland, CO, Laurie Borden of Syracuse, NY along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren completed Bill’s family.
A memorial service will be held for Bill on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 9:30am at Sunland Mortuary in Sun City. His memorial Mass and burial service will be held in Allegany, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of choice or to the Sun Cities Military Order of the Purple Heart Michael E. Mahoney Chapter 691, c/o Commander Ron Capek, 5221 W. Mescal Street, Glendale, AZ for their continued support of various veterans groups.
