I served with Bob in Vietnam from 1965-1966

He was a special person who everyone liked.

I wish I had met with him in Surprise because my sister lives in
'Sun City West we could have talked about our times in the Sea Bees.

Mom, Patsy and Kathy,  Your husband and father was a great man with a big heart!  I will always remember the fun and happiness we shared at his home during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and I will never forget the advice he gave me when I was a young man.

Goodbyes are not forever,
Goodbyes are not the end,
They simply mean I'll miss you,
Until we meet again.  
I remember meeting you when I went with Patsy to visit
in Las Vegas.  Everyone knew you at the casinos, and they 
all treated you so special.  While breakfasts were a bit
 earlier then I was used to, they were always so much fun.
I learned a lot because you always had a story or a joke
for us.  Thank you for all the great memories.

Dearest Kathy and Patsy, I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad.  I never got the chance to meet him, but I can tell from all the pictures you posted, he was a happy fun loving man. May God bless your mama and you two and wrap his loving arms around you all during this difficult time,

Bob Fletcher was one of a kind in a world of too many cookie cutter men.  He was a mentor to an untold number of men.  He was book smart, life smart and street smart.   Not a day passes without a recollection of his teachings that still guides us.    I, like countless others, owe my career to him and his willingness to take a chance on  "a youngster".   He is deeply missed, but will live forever in the memories of his accomplishments and our once in a lifetime friendship.

I would like to offer my deepest condolences to Bobby's family.  I was saddened to hear of his passing and thinking of him brought back a lot of fond memories. I served under Bobby in MCB-9 in Vietnam and considered him a dear friend. My son Jason and I enjoyed Saturday morning breakfasts with Bobby and his lovely wife Kazuyo when we lived in Henderson and our trips back after we moved away. Bobby was a character and was always good for a joke or two. He will be missed terribly. We are keeping the entire Fletcher family in our prayers.

Mr. Bobby Dean Fletcher…Growing up across the street from the Fletchers’ was like having another navy family. When my Navy Seabee dad would be away, Mr. Fletcher would be there for us and vise versa. My fond memories:

Great cook: During my sleep overs with Patsy, I would look forward to the mornings smelling his famous breakfast. Fluffy scrambled eggs, ( he used chop sticks to scramble the eggs) and bacon.  One time the house smelled so good, I said “what are you making?” He said “Rabbit!” I peeked  into the pot thinking I’d see bunny ears, but it looked like good ol' chicken stewing.  It was sooo good and spicy!  He loved his spices especially Louisiana spices.  

Proud Navy Seabee:  He even named not 1 dog but 2 poodle dogs, Seabee 1 and Seabee 2. Speaking of dogs, One day there was a huge dog on his yard and I was afraid to go visit …..He said he would go outside and watch to make sure I will be ok.  When he came out, the big dog was gone and a little one was there, and he came out and laughed out loud and said “ Your afraid of this Bleep bleep little dog?” I told him that was a different dog!! 

Coach/driver:  He bought a station wagon and he would coach our girls softball team and inspire us by taking us to eat ice cream, Mexican food and A&W even if we lost. 

Sport fanatic:  He loved all sports.  Going into the house, he would be in his recliner and you’d know which team he was for by all the hootin’ and hollerin’.  You’d think he was the coach! We always made sure to enter and ask him for something when the team he was for was scoring! 

Mostly, he had a very contagious laugh and told the best stories and jokes. 

My heart and soul are with the family and all his loved ones.  Thanks Mr. Fletcher for being in my life!   Whether it be a big dog, or little dog. I know you will always be watching over me, Until we meet again…..Aloha Oe”

There was only one Senior Chief Bobby Fletcher.  He was a straight shooter who always told you what was right whether you liked it or not.  He was a dear friend of mine and one I relied on to give me his best advice which I treasured on any subject having to do with the Seabees from the time I first met him in 1963 as a LTJG up until I retired as a Rear Admiral in 1995 and continuing on until he passed away at 89 this year.  I will always remember him with great admiration.  He was my friend.  My sincere condolences to his wife and family.  Jack Buffington.

  I MET YOU AT A MCB9 REUNION IN LAS VRGAS  I WAS  PRESIDENT OF MCB1REUNION  AND WE BECAME FRIENDS  RIGHT AWAY AND HAVE BEEN FRIENDS MANY YEARS  YOU WILL TRULY WILL BE MISSED BY ALL SEABEES THAT NEW YOU  ESPECIALLY  ME  REST IN PEACE   CHIEF

During Vietnam Ed served under Bob.  They developed a wonderful, sincere and much valued friendship that has lasted all these years.
We always enjoyed having a meal with Bobby and Kaz, his lovely wife on our many trips to Vegas.

There are none finer than "niners".

Bobby and I served together in MCB 9.   I was a young CEC officer and he was an experienced  SEABEE.  He helped me adjust to being a company commander in Danang, Vietnam.  I was and am forever grateful for his guidance.  We really connected when he learned that I was from Louisiana.  He had a tour at the New Iberia NAS and   enjoyed the experience especially the cajun people.  He thought I was a cajun which I wasn't but I enjoyed the honorary title he bestowed.  We reconnected many years later at an MCB 9 reunion in Las Vegas.  He had not changed a bit.  Bobby was a leader, a fun loving guy and a great story teller.  He will be missed.
