Always smiling, always laughing, he was a good friend to many and his larger than life persona lives on.  I know they'll miss you at Santa Anita, I sure do.  May you rest in peace, love ya man.

Have known Gary since he was 10 years old.  He and his parents were our next door neighbors in River Park, in Sacramento, CA.  We have all remained close friends all these years, until Bud and Irene's passing.  Have many wonderful memories at both River Park and Foothill Farms.  Talked with Gary just a few months ago from AZ, so this comes as quite a shock and we are all very much saddened by his untimely death.  Mindy, be well. So sorry to hear this news. Gary was always the life of the party. He was the 1st person that I knew that had the MLB full games package. Working with him a Lucky was always a pleasure because we could have fun even while working our butts off.. He is missed.

Very sad to hear about Gary. He was truly so much fun to work with. Everyone loved him. He always knew how to make people laugh. He will be remembered as a wonderful person and he will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers are with you, and your family.

We met in the summer of 1966, graduated together in 1968,we last spoke to each other last month and now everything we did together keeps going through my mind. I respected you as a person and loved you as my friend.  See you on the other side!!

46 years of loving him gone in the wink of eye; I'm devasted. We've cried, went through loves, divorces, marriages and deaths together. We travelled extensively together and did things most only imagine. He was always part of our family and I theirs. I have never met his equal nor ever expect to. I can never watch “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” ever again without reminding me of the sorrow of my/our loss and his impact on my/our life. The three amigos (see photos) have suffered greatly. Hell ya gotta love someone who introduces you to Jagermeister in 1972. Bill says he caught 51 fish but Doug and I know him differently; that would be zero or bait only. Frank once sang, “regrets, I have a few, but then again to few to mention” and Gary as a friend and companion is not one of them. We shared a love of the “Baja” together and I only wish I could squeeze in another trip with him. I will be spreading some ashes there for a final resting place. Gary I wish you peace now and it is us, your friends that will be in the greatest pain now. Hasta Luego amigo y via con Dios. Thanks for the memories.

Our prayers are with you Mindy.  Gary was an amazing guy and devoted friend to Marty.  He was always smiling and always ready to talk sports.  My dad loved him dearly and I always looked forward to seeing him whenever I visited Sac.  He will be greatly missed.

Gary was a wonderful guy and like an older brother growing up down the street from him in Sacramento and enjoyed a friendship into our adult years.  I was truly saddened to hear of his passing and will always hold close the memories of the many, many wonderful times we had together.

Whhhoowahh, what to say bout my knowing Gary! Many trips to the Baja,many late nights listening to Janis/Jimi/Carlos/Boz "brother can u lend me a dime?/etc..all music=60's! Wow, just heard about the Hawk.Gary was working at Northgate Lucky's when I was hired there back in '69'. We crossed paths so many times in the grocery business, remodles, GM shows and meetings. I remember taking a business calculas class with him at Sac State and I was telling him, geez it's not that hard Hawk and he replied, "yeah maybe not for you since this is the third time you've taken it." I hope your basking in your field of dreams Gary.

On September 22nd, I lost my dearest friend.  My heart is broken and I struggle to accept the fact that he is gone.    My memories of him are too many to mention but all treasured. The day we caught 51 fish is a day we bragged about alot.  Hawk even had t-shirts made for us that read the 51 club.      His Mom and Dad were such good people and I learned so much from them.   Gary was my friend through thick and thin and never once judged me but loved me, encouraged me and supported me.     I am a better person for knowing him and will miss him every day for the rest of my life.     My heart goes out to Mindy, I know this is not easy for her and I wish her the best.

We were so sad to hear the news about Gary's passing. He was way too young. We lived next door to his mom and dad in Foothill Farms and always had fun talking and laughing with Gary. Mindy, we are so sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear of Gary's passing.  We lived next door to his dad Bud for Bud's last 10 years or so.  Got to know Gary and Mindy after his Mom passed and he kept an eye on his Dad.  Can't believe he passed away so young.  Hope you are doing okay Mindy.

I'm so unspeakably sad to learn of Gary's passing.  I lived one house away from him in Foothill Farms for many childhood years.  He and I along with several others on the street (including David Cookman, Tim Dugan) were buddies and minor neighborhood terrors in our junior and high school years, and we had great fun and a lot of laughs.  Sadly, I never saw Gary again after 1969 as I married and was out of the area and overseas for many years.  I had always hoped to run into him again at some point, but no one knew where he was after his parents were both gone and their house sold.  Even so, I always pictured Gary laughing and making mischief somewhere!  My deepest condolences to Mindy.

Gary was also a huge Rolling Stones fan, and had the largest album collection I have ever seen. Being around Harko, there was always going to be some fun on the horizon...very sorry to hear the news. He left too soon...

Grew up with Gary on Everest Way....he was the cute older "bad" boy who lived down the street in the house with the perfect yard! He will always be the King of Everest to me... I am so sorry for your loss Mindy.

Gary was a very good friend through out our time with Lucky stores. We would talk about baseball the ponies and music. He was a lot of fun and will be missed by many.

 Mindy, Woo and I have been trying to wrap our heads around this since we heard the news. We are so saddened to hear about Gary's passing. He was a such a great guy. All these years later, Woo and I still laugh about the fun times we shared with Gary. You are in our thoughts and hearts and please contact Fatigato or Woo when you are in town.

Worked with Gary many years ago, have never forgot how funny he was, what good care he took of his Dad, and his favorite green bottle [Yegarmiser-sp] I hope he knows how many people he made such awesome experience on and will always bring a smile when we yhink of him! Bless you and yours.

I am so sorry to read this!  My family lived 1 house down from Gary thoughout all the years the family was in Foothill Farms.  It was a wonderful neighborhood to grow up in and Gary was friendly to everyone.  He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered!
