IN THE CARE OF

Surprise Funeral Care

George Augustus Cox, affectionately known as "GUS" passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 65. Gus was a cherished hardworking, smart and resourceful individual whose presence will be deeply missed.

Gus was the beloved son of Patricia and Joseph Cox born in Huntsville, Alabama on April 16, 1960. Almost immediately the family moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1962 while his father attended graduate school. The family then relocated to Lake County in Northern Illinois where Gus attended elementary, junior high and high school graduating in June of 1978. Gus was a valued thespian for 4 years at Grayslake Community High School. He ultimately attended trade school at the College of Lake County and apprenticed at Abbott Labs as a mold maker. He subsequently became a journeyman in 1986 and excelled as a mold maker and machinist until his retirement.

Gus moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1993 where he eventually met Maureen (Orth) ... together they raised their twin boys, Casey and Cody. Family was very much central to Gus and he was a devoted husband and father.

Gus had a profound love for music which he passed on to his sons. This love inspired him to pursue woodworking and became a self-taught luthier. His passion for music and art was a testament to his creative spirit.

Gus loved everything sports. He loved cheering on many-many teams including the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Florida Gators, Wisconsin Badgers and many others. He was a faithful fan.

Gus leaves behind his wife Maureen; twin sons, Casey and Cody; his brother, Sam (Pal), his much-loved fur babies, Annie and Lucy along with numerous family and friends.

Gus was funny, smart, and loving. His legacy is one of warmth and love of family. Gus resided in Surprise, Arizona when he passed.

A memorial service will be held for Gus this summer through Piasecki Funeral Home in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

"The song is ended, but the melody lingers on". Rest on Peace, Gus. We love you!
