James Mastrino, whom I affectionally called "Pops", was truly a rare individual. I have known Pops for approximately 21 years and have never met a person who displayed such a volcano of never ending energy. Whenever one of his daughters needed something or complained about something he would immediately rectify it. When we lived in Illinois and Pops came to visit, my wife, Marilyn, mentioned that the basement did not have enough lights. Pops immediately had me going to Menards for supplies to remedy the problem. Within 3 hours we not only had flouresent lighting throughout the basement, we also had electric plugins installed as well as a telephone extension. All he ever wanted in return was a simple thank you. This was just one example. I could go on and on. For this reason I could never say no to anything he wanted from me. I only wish that I could have done more for my father-in-law. I will miss having a beer with you after a long walk or at Hooters while the women are at the movies. I love you and miss you "Pops".

James V. Mastrino was one of the hardest working men that I have ever encountered in my entire life. He taught me basically everything I know when it comes to construction. I had a chance to work with him when I was a young man. After our day of work, He would treat me to a good meal, besides my take home pay. He was a man that just wanted you to be honest with him, and tell it like it is. When I first met him I was intimidated, only to find out he was a teddy bear deep inside. He treated his daughter and my children with great generosity that overwhelmed me. I never had a chance to thank him for his World War II heroism. James V.Mastrino will always be in my heart. I could not ask for a better father-in-law. “I love you, a bushel and a peck “.

Dear uncle Jim  when someone becomes a memory -the  memory becomes a treasure. We will always love you and the treasure all the times you helped us through the good as well as the bad . We have been truly blessed to have such a special person in our life . You were always there for me in life and will be there for me even in your death. There are so many people there to greet you with open arms . Now along with so many you are my angel . I love you so much. Aunt Nina do not worrying he will be fine . Just keep you head up and be strong that is what he would have wanted .i love you

He truly was a man who perhaps lived his life differently that most.  However, he did live his life the best way he knew.  Memories of my father- in-law range from hard working, free spirited and strong character to a sometimes misunderstood man who loved his wife and children dearly.  He is at rest now,peaceful and calm reclaiming all the good he tried (and for the most part succeeded) to do for so many.  Thank you father-in-law for raising a good son who has also raised good sons.   Your strength will be remembered by me always.

To those reading this, you may remember my Father at his best.  Some of you may remember him at his worst.  Some of you remember his loyalty as a friend.  Some of you remember him for his generousity.  Some of you may remember him for his robust laugh.  A laugh that could be heard yards away.  Some of you remember him for his wisdom.  When it came to fixing anything he was the one that could do so. Some of you remember his overwhelming presence when he walked into a room. Some of you remember how gentle he was.  I know it came later in his life but he was a gentle giant.  For me I remember him as my Dad.  I loved him for just being my Dad.  Love, Peace, and Joy---

Nina,Jim Jr.,Marilyn, and Cheryl please know that you have our deepest sympathy. Jimmy was more than and neighbor to us, he was a good friend and "family".  His laughter and good sense of humor is a fond memory we have of him.  He was always playing tricks on our Jim. Cheryl, I will always see your dad in your smile.
