Judith Anne Bell 82, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2020 in Surprise, Arizona. Judy was born June 20, 1938 to the late James Windle and Thelma Louise (Bobby) Butler in Kansas City, Kansas. Judy was a 1956 Graduate of Rosedale High School where she was also a Royalette representing the American Royal in Kansas City. Judy went on to study art at Emporia State University where her beautiful Grandma Moses style artistry led her to a position with Kansas City based Trans World Airlines as a commercial artist. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
On August 1, 1959 Judy married her high school sweetheart Clyde Kenneth Bell Jr. (Kenny) at the Rosedale Congregational Church. They just recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary and over 67 years since they started “going steady” in 1953. Together they raised four children: Scott and his wife Sue of Alpharetta, Georgia; Michael and his wife Gayle of Surprise, Arizona; Timothy of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Angela of Surprise, Arizona. Three grandchildren; Justin and Blake Bell of Roswell, Georgia, and Savannah Bell of Surprise, Arizona. She is also survived by her brother Robert Butler and his wife Kathy of Olathe, Kansas, Aunt Barbara Mostaffa and Nephews Patrick and Steve Butler, their families, and several cousins.
“Ma Bell” as she was affectionately known, will be forever remembered for her love of sports, traveling and the great outdoors. All will recall the countless nights spent at the ballpark or football stadium cheering on her children, their friends, and their teammates. She considered all of them her own, giving most of them their own special nicknames and they in turn always referring to her as Ma Bell. A lifelong Chiefs and Royals fan she would hardly miss a game.
Traveling to the mountains was one of her greatest passions. Whether the rolling hills of her beloved Ozarks or the majestic peaks of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, there was no place she would rather visit. When asked where she wanted to travel, she would always respond with great joy, “I want to go to the mountains!” Rest in Peace Ma Bell, go rest high on that mountain. Love Always! There will be a private family service at a later date.
